Satin has a reputation for being high-maintenance, but with a few simple habits, your Softher pieces will hold their color, shine, and softness for years, not months.
Always hand wash or use a mesh laundry bag on a gentle/delicate machine cycle. Satin's smooth fibers can snag on zippers or rougher fabrics if washed loose with regular laundry.
Cold water only. Warm or hot water breaks down the fibers faster and can dull the fabric's natural sheen over time — one of the fastest ways to age satin prematurely.
Skip the fabric softener. It sounds counterintuitive, but softener actually coats satin fibers and reduces the natural silkiness rather than enhancing it. A mild, pH-neutral detergent is all you need.
Hang dry, away from direct sunlight. Direct heat from a dryer — or direct sun — is the single biggest cause of color fading on printed satin. A shaded spot indoors or a covered balcony works best.
If you iron, use the lowest heat setting with a cloth barrier between the iron and the fabric, or steam instead — direct high heat can leave a shine mark or, worse, melt synthetic-blend satins.
